About Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc.

Founded in 1994 by industry pioneers John C. Morris and Greg Stemm, Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. is a public company (NasdaqCM: OMEX) engaged in the exploration of deep-water shipwrecks, using innovative methods and state-of-the-art technology to conduct extensive deep-ocean search and archaeological recovery operations around the world, based on strict adherence to international law and archaeological integrity. Greg Stemm is currently Odyssey’s Chief Executive Officer following John Morris’s retirement from Odyssey in January 2008.

Odyssey’s Most Remarkable Deep-Ocean Recoveries

In 2003, Odyssey discovered the Civil War-era shipwreck of the SS Republic®, 100 miles off the coast of Georgia and subsequently recovered over 50,000 coins and 14,000 artifacts from nearly 1,700 feet depth.

In May 2007, the company announced the largest historic deep-ocean treasure recovery of over 500,000 silver and gold coins, weighing 17 tons, from a Colonial era site code-named "Black Swan."

Odyssey has several shipwreck projects in various stages of development around the world.

Odyssey’s Principles

Odyssey’s is firmly committed to following the highest professional standards of practicing archaeologically sensitive shipwreck recovery, and to establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with local government and authorities. An example of such a collaboration is Odyssey’s groundbreaking Agreement with the British Government for the archaeological excavation of HMS Sussex, a British warship sunk in 1694 off the coast of Gibraltar.

Concurrent with Odyssey's goals for exploration is the organization's dedication to protecting the cultural heritage found in deep ocean shipwrecks, and CEO Greg Stemm is one of the leaders in developing a practical standard for commercial and academic coordination on shipwreck exploration and recovery.

Sharing The Treasures

Odyssey offers various ways to share the knowledge gathered and treasures recovered from its deep-ocean explorations with the general public and students through its webstore, exhibits, books, television, merchandise, and educational programs. The company’s work is also the focus of an 11-part primetime series airing on Discovery Channel in 2009. Odyssey's multi-generational, interactive "SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure" exhibit is currently on display at Science Museum Oklahoma and has previously been featured in New Orleans, Tampa, and Detroit.
